    STASSU’s Accomplishments<\/b>:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

    Our dedication is reflected in the positive changes we’ve brought about:<\/span><\/p>

    • Successfully implemented the “Reducing Road Fatalities and Injuries among Children and Young People” project, increasing awareness, improving speed management, and creating safer school zones.<\/span><\/li>
    • Completed the “Scaling Up Advocacy for Safe School Zone Project Uganda,” leading to a reduction in road crashes in Gulu city.<\/span><\/li>
    • Introduced the iRAP star rating for schools in Kampala and GULU, enhancing child pedestrian safety.<\/span><\/li>
    • Organized the 6th United Nations Global Road Safety Week in Uganda.<\/span><\/li>
    • Implemented the Motor Third Party Insurance (MTPI) Compensation Project in partnership with Uganda insurers Association and Ministry of Health, reducing road crash costs and improving road safety.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

      Recent Projects: Addressing Current Challenges<\/b>:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

      We remain proactive in addressing emerging safety concerns:<\/span><\/p>

      • Providing Crash Investigation Training for traffic and community liaison police officers to improve post-crash investigation.<\/span><\/li>
      • Conducting Road Safety Awareness campaigns in Construction Zones, educating communities on safe practices.<\/span><\/li>
      • Running the Smart Travel Campaign, promoting safe travel for long-distance bus travelers.<\/span><\/li>
      • Participating in the Global Fleet Champions Campaign, encouraging fleet owners to prioritize safety.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>

        Child Injury Prevention: Protecting Uganda’s Future<\/b><\/p>

        STASSU prioritizes child injury prevention to ensure that Uganda’s young population can grow up healthy and safe. Recent statistics highlight the urgent need for intervention:<\/span><\/p>

        • Road traffic injuries are a leading cause of death for children aged 5-14 in Uganda.<\/span><\/li>
        • Drowning is a significant threat, particularly in rural areas, where access to safe water and swimming education is limited.<\/span><\/li>
        • Many child injuries from road crashes occur near schools, due to unsafe road conditions and lack of pedestrian infrastructure.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>

          Our child injury prevention efforts include:<\/b><\/p>

          • Safe School Zones:<\/b>\u00a0We work with schools and local authorities to implement measures such as speed bumps, pedestrian crossings, and improved signage to create safer environments for children walking or cycling to school.<\/span><\/li>
          • Water Safety Education:<\/b>\u00a0We conduct water safety workshops for children and parents, teaching basic swimming skills, water rescue techniques, and the importance of adult supervision.<\/span><\/li>
          • Advocacy for Child-Friendly Policies:<\/b>\u00a0We advocate for policies that prioritize child safety, such Safe school zones Guide\u00a0 and\u00a0 mandatory helmet use for children on bicycles and motorcycles, and stricter enforcement of traffic laws in school zones.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>
